Students at Holy Family Academy attend Mass every Friday at Mt Angel Abbey, except on First Fridays, when they attend Mass at Sacred Heart in Gervais.
The Holy Rosary is usually prayed by the whole student body on Fridays at school after Mass (the third mystery is prayed in Latin, the others in English). During Lent, the Stations of the Cross are prayed instead of the Rosary, and also the Divine Mercy chaplet (time permitting).
Students begin every day with prayer, and pray throughout the day in their classrooms. Each classroom teacher has specific prayers for each class, but in general all students pray the Morning Offering, the Consecration to the Holy Family, and others, such as the Kindness Prayer. Many classes also pray the Prayer for Priests, which was instituted during the Year for Priests, and make a Spiritual Communion daily.
The Angelus/Regina Coeli, Grace Before Meals, and Grace After Meals, are prayed during the lunch period.
The Act of Contrition is prayed at the end of the day (or as needed).
In addition, teachers pray various other prayers with students according to the liturgical season. For example, the 7/8th grade students prayed an abbreviated Morning Prayer of the Divine Office during Advent, and all students/staff gathered around an Advent wreath to pray Advent prayers and to sing “O Come O Come Emmanuel”.
Parent Club meetings, Staff meetings, and Board meetings all begin and end with prayer.
Sacramental preparation and the reception of the sacraments are celebrated in the families’ home parishes. Frequent Confession and reception of the Holy Eucharist are encouraged.
